Playing on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch
Consoles can play on SmackCraft, but it takes a little setting up. A grown-up may need to help with parts 1 and 2.
Why is it different on consoles?
On a phone, tablet or Windows PC you can tap Add Server and type our address. On Xbox, PlayStation and Switch, Minecraft only lets you join the big "featured" servers. There's no Add Server button.
So on a console you join through Minecraft's Friends tab instead. SmackCraft has its own Xbox account. Add it as a friend, and SmackCraft shows up in your friends list like a friend's world you can join. You arrive in the lobby: step through a portal, or type /worlds, to pick a world.
You also need the console's online play subscription, and to sign up first with your Xbox gamertag.
1. Online play subscription
Each console company charges for online play, and Minecraft needs it to join any server. It's not something we charge for.
- Xbox
- Xbox Game Pass Essential or higher (Premium or Ultimate). This used to be called Game Pass Core, and before that Xbox Live Gold.
- PlayStation
- PlayStation Plus, any tier (Essential is the cheapest).
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch Online.
- Phone, tablet, Windows PC
- Free. No subscription needed.
Every platform also needs a free Microsoft account signed in to Minecraft.
2. Let the account play online
If the player has a child account, its settings might block online play. In Minecraft this usually shows as "Multiplayer is disabled" or "You can't join multiplayer games". A parent can turn it on:
- Microsoft account (all platforms): in the Xbox Family Settings app or at account.microsoft.com/family, allow the child to join multiplayer games, to add friends, and to play with people outside Xbox ("cross-network play").
- PlayStation: in the console's Family Management / parental controls, allow online play and communication for the child account.
- Switch: in the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, make sure Minecraft isn't restricted from communicating with others.
3. Add SmackCraft as a friend
It accepts every friend request by itself, usually within a minute.
Gamertag to addsmackcraftUK
Step A: send the friend request
Xbox
- Open Minecraft, choose Play, then the Friends tab.
- Choose Add Friend, type in the gamertag above and search.
- Choose the account, then Add friend.
PlayStation or Switch
- Open Minecraft and make sure you're signed in with your Microsoft account (it asks when you open the game).
- Choose Play, then the Friends tab.
- Choose Find Cross-Platform Friends, type in the gamertag above and search.
- Choose the account, then Add Friend.
Step B: join from the Friends tab
- Wait a minute for the friend request to be accepted, then go back to Play → Friends.
- SmackCraft shows up under Joinable Friends (on PlayStation and Switch, Joinable Cross-Platform Friends).
- Choose it and join. Next time it's already there, so you can skip Step A.
If it doesn't work
- "You are not whitelisted on this server"
- A Smackmin hasn't added you yet, or the gamertag you signed up with doesn't match. Check you used your exact Xbox gamertag, then wait for our message saying you're in.
- SmackCraft doesn't show up in the Friends tab
- Give it a minute after adding the friend, then leave the Friends tab and go back in. Check you added the exact gamertag above. If the account can't add friends, a parent needs to allow it (part 2). Still nothing? Try the other way below, or ask a Smackmin.
- "Multiplayer is disabled" or "You can't join multiplayer games"
- Either the subscription (part 1) is missing, or the account's settings block online play (part 2).
- "Unable to connect to world"
- SmackCraft might be restarting. Wait a few minutes and try again, or ask in our Discord.
Still stuck? Ask a Smackmin in our Discord.
Other way: BedrockConnect Only if the Friends tab doesn't work. Needs a network setting changed on the console.
BedrockConnect is a free, community-run tool. You change one network setting on the console (its DNS). After that, joining a featured server in Minecraft opens a server list where you can type in our address.
BedrockConnect isn't run by us or by Minecraft. While the DNS setting is changed, the console looks up website names through BedrockConnect's server. Set it back to Automatic when you're done playing. If other websites or games stop working, that's the fix too.
First, change the console's DNS
Xbox
- Open Settings → General → Network settings → Advanced settings → DNS settings, then choose Manual.
- Primary DNS:
104.238.130.180 - Secondary DNS:
8.8.8.8
PlayStation 5
- Open Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection, pick your Wi-Fi or cable connection, then Advanced Settings.
- Set DNS Settings to Manual.
- Primary DNS:
45.55.68.52 - Secondary DNS:
8.8.8.8 - Press OK and let it test the connection.
PlayStation 4
- Open Settings → Network → Set Up Internet Connection, pick Wi-Fi or LAN cable, then Custom.
- IP Address Settings: Automatic. DHCP Host Name: Do Not Specify.
- DNS Settings: Manual. Primary DNS:
45.55.68.52 - Secondary DNS:
8.8.8.8 - MTU Settings: Automatic. Proxy Server: Do Not Use. Then test the connection.
Nintendo Switch
- Open System Settings → Internet → Internet Settings and pick your network.
- Choose Change Settings → DNS Settings → Manual.
- Primary DNS:
104.238.130.180 - Secondary DNS:
8.8.8.8 - Choose Save.
PlayStation uses a different primary address (45.55.68.52) because BedrockConnect recommends it for PS4 and PS5.
Then join through Minecraft
- Open Minecraft, choose Play, then the Servers tab.
- Join one of the featured servers, such as The Hive, Lifeboat, Mineville, Galaxite or Enchanted. Instead of that server, the BedrockConnect server list opens.
- Choose Connect to a Server and type in:
Server Address
play.smackcraft.ukPort19133 - Turn on Add to server list so it's saved for next time, then join.
